Summary
The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator will support the implementation and continuous strengthening of Uncommon.org's MEL function across its programme portfolio, including Core Support and Capacity Building, Bootcamp and Youth Coding, Teacher Training, and the Startup Incubator. The role exists to ensure that high-quality data and evidence are generated, analysed, and utilised to measure programme performance, demonstrate impact, and inform decision-making.
Working closely with the M&E Manager, Programme Managers, and Coordinators across all Uncommon hubs, the MEL Coordinator will coordinate data collection processes, maintain robust data systems, support performance reporting, and promote data quality and accountability. The role will contribute to tracking organisational and donor results frameworks, strengthening organisational learning, and fostering the use of evidence to drive programme improvement and adaptive management.
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and analytical professional with strong organisational skills, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to ethical data management and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Monitoring and Evaluation Systems Management
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Uncommon.org's Monitoring and Evaluation framework across all programme pillars in line with the JNF grant logframe.
- Maintain and update M&E tools, templates, and documentation to ensure consistency and adherence to organisational standards.
- Support preparations for internal reviews and the external evaluation scheduled during the grant period.
2. Data Collection and Quality Assurance
- Lead primary data collection activities, including administering surveys, facilitating focus group discussions, and conducting structured interviews with programme participants and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with organisational data protection, confidentiality, and ethical standards in the collection, storage, analysis, and reporting of programme data.
- Maintain beneficiary databases and ensure information is accurate, current, and securely managed across all programme sites.
3. Data Analysis and Reporting
- Support data analysis activities, including generating summary statistics, trend analyses, and tracking performance against logframe targets.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and donor reports by providing accurate data and narrative inputs.
- Monitor reporting timelines and support compliance with donor and organisational reporting requirements.
4. Programme Monitoring and Stakeholder Support
- Coordinate alumni tracking activities for the Startup Incubator programme, including conducting six-month and twelve-month follow-up assessments.
- Support programme staff in the interpretation and use of monitoring data to strengthen programme performance and decision-making.
- Promote and uphold Uncommon.org's safeguarding, child protection, and code of conduct policies during all monitoring and evaluation activities.
5. Capacity Building and Knowledge Management
- Build the capacity of programme Coordinators and relevant staff in M&E tools, data collection procedures, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain the M&E documentation library, including data collection instruments, consent forms, data protection protocols, and reporting templates.
- Promote a culture of learning, accountability, and evidence-based practice through the sharing of M&E insights and best practices.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years' experience in monitoring and evaluation, programme reporting, or data management within a development or NGO environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-site programs and field-based teams.
- Proven track record of stakeholder engagement with government bodies, schools, or education authorities.
- Experience with curriculum design or instructional design in a technology or ICT context.
- Experience supporting M&E functions in a donor-funded program, particularly with international funders.
- Knowledge of ethical principles relating to research and data collection.
- Experience using data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with mobile data collection systems and database administration.
Performance Metrics (KPIs)
- Timely and accurate submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual donor reports.
- Data quality and consistency maintained across all programme sites.
- Beneficiary database kept accurate, current, and securely managed.
- Completion of alumni tracking follow-ups at six-month and twelve-month intervals.
- M&E tools, templates, and documentation library kept up to date.
- Programme staff demonstrate improved capacity in data collection and reporting.
90-Day Success Plan
By the end of 90 days, the MEL Coordinator will have:
- Completed a full review of existing M&E tools, databases, and reporting templates across all programme pillars.
- Established baseline data and performance tracking aligned to the JNF grant logframe.
- Led at least one round of primary data collection activities with programme participants.
- Built strong working relationships with Programme Managers and Coordinators across all Uncommon hubs.
- Submitted the first monthly data and narrative report in line with donor requirements.
