Summary
The Career Development Coordinator is responsible for leading the design and delivery of Uncommon's job-readiness programme, ensuring Bootcamp graduates are equipped with the skills, confidence, and professional mindset needed to succeed in today's workplace.
Working closely with instructors, employers, and students, the role prepares graduates for employment through career coaching, workplace readiness training, employer engagement, and ongoing mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Career Curriculum Design & Development
- Design and maintain a standardised job-readiness curriculum covering CV writing, interview preparation, workplace professionalism, and career planning.
- Develop learning resources that ensure consistent delivery across all Uncommon hubs.
- Continuously improve curriculum content based on employer feedback and labour market trends.
2. Career Curriculum Delivery & Facilitation
- Train instructors to effectively deliver the job-readiness curriculum across all hubs.
- Coordinate company visits and employer engagement activities for each Bootcamp cohort.
- Facilitate individual job shadowing opportunities for students.
3. Curriculum Assessment & Quality Assurance
- Administer job-readiness assessments for graduating students.
- Analyse assessment results to identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain high-quality standards for curriculum delivery across all locations.
4. Employer Feedback & Programme Improvement
- Gather employer feedback on graduate workplace readiness and performance.
- Translate employer insights into curriculum enhancements.
- Collaborate with the Employment Partnerships Manager to align career preparation with industry needs.
5. Student Coaching & Alumni Mentorship
- Provide one-on-one career coaching to students preparing for employment.
- Coordinate alumni mentorship programmes connecting graduates with current students.
- Support students throughout their career development journey with personalised guidance.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Education, Psychology, Business Administration, Career Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in career coaching, workforce development, education, or youth employment.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good understanding of Zimbabwe's labour market and employment landscape.
- Experience coaching or mentoring young professionals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Willingness to travel regularly to Uncommon hub locations.
- Experience working within an NGO, education, or youth development environment (desirable).
- Experience designing training curricula or learning programmes (desirable).
- Knowledge of employability skills frameworks (desirable).
- Experience coordinating mentorship or internship programmes (desirable).
- Existing professional networks with employers or industry partners (desirable).
Performance Metrics (KPIs)
- Job-readiness curriculum designed, maintained, and consistently delivered across all Uncommon hubs.
- Instructors trained and effectively delivering the career readiness curriculum at each hub.
- Job-readiness assessments administered and results analysed for each graduating cohort.
- Employer feedback collected and translated into curriculum improvements each cycle.
- Graduate employment rates and workplace readiness outcomes tracked and reported.
- Alumni mentorship programme active with consistent graduate and student participation.
90-Day Success Plan
By the end of 90 days, the Career Development Coordinator will have:
- Completed a review of existing career readiness resources and identified gaps in the current curriculum.
- Designed the first draft of the standardised job-readiness curriculum for review by the Employment Partnerships Manager.
- Delivered at least one career readiness workshop or training session with a Bootcamp cohort.
- Conducted initial employer engagement activities to gather feedback on graduate workplace readiness.
- Established a coaching schedule for graduating students and identified alumni for the mentorship programme.
