The Human Resources Officer is responsible for all aspects of Human Resources at Uncommon.org, ensuring the organization attracts, develops, and retains top talent.
This role manages the employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding to performance management and employee relations, fostering a positive and productive work environment that aligns with Uncommon.org's values and strategic goals.
The HR Officer ensures compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage recruitment end-to-end: postings, screening, interviews, checks, offers, and contracts.
- Implement onboarding programs for new employees and ensure timely completion of documentation.
- Oversee compliant offboarding, including exit procedures and final payroll requirements.
- Implement and maintain HR policies and procedures for employees and program students, as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with labor, wage and hour, EEO, and workplace safety regulations.
- Maintain employee records, process paperwork, and respond to HR-related inquiries.
- Administer payroll and submit relevant statutory tax payments.
- Oversee approved leave requests and track used/accumulated leave in line with policies.
- Implement performance management systems and coordinate reviews and development plans.
- Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives and promote a positive culture.
- Address employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
- Ensure fair and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
- Support Bootcamp recruiting and admissions; administer non-technical student interviews.
- Ensure students receive and sign relevant legal agreements during onboarding.
- Address student issues related to the Code of Conduct or Student Handbook, ensuring consistency and compliance with laws.
- Collaborate with Programs Manager, Bootcamp Program Manager, Safeguarding Officer, and Country Director.
Requirements:
Requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, or related field.
- 3+ years of HR experience including recruitment, employee relations, and HR operations.
- Strong knowledge of Zimbabwean labor law and HR compliance.
- Experience with payroll administration and leave management.
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and written communication skills.
- High integrity and discretion handling confidential information.
- Proficiency with HRIS/HR systems and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Alignment with Uncommon.org values and mission.
Nice to Haves:
It is an added plus if you have:
- Professional certification (e.g., IPMZ, SHRM, CIPD) or in progress.
- Experience in NGOs/nonprofits or education/training environments.
- Experience supporting student policies and safeguarding.
- Experience implementing performance management frameworks.
