Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you didn’t have access to a computer?
Has a computer helped with your education? Your career? Would you be where you are today if you didn’t have one?
Most of the unemployed young adults who join Uncommon have never owned a computer. Throughout the year, they use their computers to learn, to teach, and for many – to start their technology careers.
This Fall, our goal is to raise enough money to buy 200 computers for our 2024 Bootcamp participants.

When I gave birth to my son I was 17 with no job or high school degree.
Today, I am a certified Google Cloud Engineer and – most importantly – a proud mother to a beautiful 5 year old boy.

When I joined Uncommon, I – like many of my peers – was unable to continue secondary school because my family could no longer afford the fees.
When I heard that Uncommon was providing computers and a free digital education, I jumped at the opportunity.
Today, I’m a professional Designer working on projects for clients all over the world.
My computer is my livelihood and it helps me support my family. With your help, someone else like me can start their technology career.

I was unemployed and unsure of what to do to get my career on track. When I applied to Uncommon, they told me that it didn’t matter if I didn’t have a degree or had never owned a computer. The only important thing was that I stayed committed and worked hard.
After finishing my internship and graduating from Uncommon, I started my career at Girls In STEM, where I’m empowering the next generation of girls to reach for the stars!
A computer gave me purpose, it will for the next young girl too.

Most of the 4,000+ kids in our youth coding program have little to no computer experience prior to joining our after school coding program.
After just a few classes our students are able to code and play their very own computer games, and are often asking us what’s next?
But the impact isn’t just limited to coding. 96% of the teachers we surveyed saw improvements in their student’s collaboration & critical thinking skills, and 100% saw improvements in logic.
Throughout the year, every Uncommon computer is used to teach coding to nearly 50 kids. Your support makes a huge difference!

Computers Change Lives
Each Uncommon computer is used to train one unemployed young adult for the technology workforce, and to teach coding to 50 school children throughout the year.
For the rest of the year, our goal is to raise $100,000 to buy and ship 200 laptops to Zimbabwe for our 2024 participants.
